Geelong veteran Tom Hawkins faces time off the field after injuring his foot during Friday night’s 63-point loss to Carlton at the MCG.

Hawkins’ Injury Details

Hawkins, who turns 36 next month, hurt his foot late in the third quarter. He pushed off his left foot, then fell to the ground in pain. Hawkins left the field on crutches, clearly frustrated, and will undergo scans to determine the severity of the injury.

Geelong’s coach, Chris Scott, mentioned that Hawkins has been dealing with a toe injury, but this new injury is different and concerning.

"I'm not saying the news is good or bad yet," Scott said. "He had to come off with a mid-foot issue, and it’s a fair distance from his toe problem. The experts don’t know yet, so we’re waiting for more information."

Geelong’s Injury and Player Update

  • Tom Hawkins: Injured foot, awaiting scans.

  • Patrick Dangerfield: Confident he won't face suspension for a tackle on Sam Walsh.

Carlton’s Performance

Carlton’s coach, Michael Voss, praised his team’s performance, calling it the most complete game since he took charge.

The Blues scored their highest points of the season (138) and dominated key areas:

  • Inside 50s: +15

  • Tackles: +14

  • Contested Ball: +11

  • Clearances: +11

"It was the most balanced game we've had," Voss said. "Our pressure and execution were excellent, and we kept that momentum going."

Standout Players

Tom De Koning: Delivered an exceptional performance, winning a ruck battle against his brother, Geelong’s Sam De Koning:

  • Hitouts: 34

  • Disposals: 25

  • Contested Possessions: 20

  • Score Involvements: 10

  • Clearances: 7

  • Goals: 1

"He has taken his game and training to another level," Voss said. "He’s focused and playing very well."

Alex Cincotta: Assigned to defend Tom Stewart, he executed his role perfectly, securing his spot in Carlton’s best 22.

"Tom Stewart is superb, and Cincotta did an excellent job," Voss said. "He’s a hungry player who always delivers."

Team Positions

  • Carlton: Second place with 10 wins this season.

  • Geelong: Eighth place with an 8-6 record, after starting the season with seven straight wins.

Geelong is concerned about Tom Hawkins’ foot injury and is awaiting further information. Meanwhile, Carlton impressed with a dominant performance, especially from Tom De Koning and Alex Cincotta. The upcoming weeks will be crucial for both teams as they navigate injuries and strive for top positions.
